Who we are
Our website address is: https://www.naturefoundationsxm.org/
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
This site does not use comments and comments have been generally disabled.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Our contact forms will collect your name (if provided), email address and phone number, if applicable. These are stored in an encoded format in our database and protected against unauthorized access. Only our administrators of the Nature Foundation St Maarten can access this information.
If you report sightings, pollution or animal abuse to us, we will always protect our sources and never reveal your name, email address or other personal information to anyone unless we are given a warrant requesting such information as part of an ongoing investigation.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
We use Google Analytics on this site to track how our site is used, where visitors come from and which articles are read in what order. We also use WordPress and Jetpack statistics to track this information. These services track your anonymized IP address, type of device, geography and the URL that you visit. Cookies are used to record how often you visit and if/when you return.
Together, this data gives us an important insight to what our readers deem the most important or “popular” subjects. The data may be used to determine where the foundation will focus its attention and how our readership can contribute to the foundation’s mission and goals.
We handle payments and donations using PayPal and ReefSupport. Any personal identifiable data from payments is known only to our partners ReefSupport and PayPal. ReefSupport is a payment service in Aruba with whom we have a collaboration to process payments for Marine Park Tags, Nature Fees and donations.
Our payment partners are PCI compliant which means we do not know nor keep anything about your payment except your name, the last 4 digits of a bank card and the amount of payment.
Who we share your data with
We only share data with our mother organization DCNA for the purpose of supporting the DCNA mission.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information. You are free to delete your account and this information at any time. This will result in the immediate deletion of your personal information.
We make backups weekly of our database for safety reasons and continuity purposes. We keep several version of this backup so that we may restore articles, media and pages up to a year after they were deleted. Since the database also contains your personal profile, this information is also kept for up to a year. After that date, your information is really gone.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Payments are processed on the servers of either PayPal or ReefSupport.
If you are concerned about your privacy and our use of the information, please contact our office at email@example.com.
All donations are received through the PayPal business account of DCNA, our mother organisation.
