Application to join the Nature Foundation Junior Rangers is due 15 July 2020.

The Nature Foundation, St. Maarten is now accepting applications from local youth who would like to participate in our Junior Ranger Program. Students ages 12 – 14 may apply by downloading the application below and emailing it to education@naturefoundationsxm.org.

Those selected for the program will learn information about several topics including conservation, local flora and fauna, public speaking and presentation skills during monthly activities planned by the foundation. Aside from being introduced to valuable information about our island these students will also learn skills that will help them in further education and job placement in the future.

Some of the activities planned include:

  • Reef Fish Identification Course with snorkel trip for practical application.
  • Discussion about the effects of plastic pollution on our environment and Beach Clean-Up.
  • The opportunity to contribute to local publications or the Nature Foundation Website.
  • Local hike with introduction to native St. Maarten plant life.

Those wishing to take part in the program will need to fill out a short application and include an essay about why they want to be a Junior Ranger. Students must meet the following requirements to apply: Students must live on the Dutch side of the island and be between the ages of 12 – 14. They must hold a swimming certificate or be a strong swimmer and also must have written permission from their parent or guardian to snorkel and swim. In addition, they need to be able to attend the monthly activities held by the foundation.
