The project was a joint effort between Nature Foundation, Environmental Protection in  the Caribbean (EPIC), the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA), VROM Department and Greenfingers N.V.

The Mangrove Restoration Project was a PJIA compensation initiative for the flora and fauna lost during the filling of the Flamingo Pond at the airport. A total amount of 3000 seedlings of various plant species including Buttonwood, local Sea Grape, Flamboyant, as well as White, Black and Red mangrove plants were transplanted at both locations.
